Shelly Electric provides turn-key installation for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations throughout the region. We have installed charging stations for Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Volvo, AeroVironment, U-Go Station network and several universities, offices, retail and parking garages.
What’s the difference between the levels?
Level 1 Charging – This is the standard 120V household outlet charging station. Although it doesn’t require any additional equipment or work to install, it takes the longest to give the car battery a full charge.
Level 2 Charging – Level 2 charging uses the same car connector as the Level 1 but electrical supply is provided at 240V – this reduces charging time in half. Some work may be needed to provide the dedicated 40A, 240V circuit to the charging station. Level 2 provides a good mix of charge time and low installation costs and is a good option for residential, commercial and places of employment.
Level 3 Charging – This is what electric charging should be. An 80% charge in 30 minutes is typical.
How do you get all of this power? A 480V DC service and relatively expensive equipment may be required, but it may very well be worth it depending on your situation. Unfortunately, Level 3 charging is not standard across all models of vehicles so compatibility should be considered.
